Time / Conditions: 08:00 — The property to the back of our house was ranch land, about maybe 100 acres, and from Highway 6 all the way to the Bosque River was uninterrupted pasture land. Barbed wire fences were the only deterrent, but this bigfoot was so large, it wouldn't have had problems with the fences. Even past the river, there was just open ranch land. The ranch behind our house ran Polled Hereford cattle and one horse. There were some trees, but it was in a clearing.

Witness Account:
We were in our yard, I believe it was a Saturday evening, my sister, our friend (who approves of me telling this tale), our neighbor who was a child, and my mother. Our house was next to last on the block and this location is right at the city limits. We were out in the front yard, facing FM 56 and heard a growling and a kind of yelling. We looked, and it was dark, and we could see outlined in the streetlamp over the bridge of the tributary a large being, it looked like an ape, with long, dark hair. Its arms were raised over its head and it threw its head back each time it made a sound. I remember we could smell a goat-like smell, not like a dog, worse. It stayed there for maybe 5 minutes, then turned and moved under the bridge going east and it went into the dark. We could hear it walking for a bit, then no more. I can't include the date of the sighting, because I really don't remember the exact date. I do believe it was October in maybe 1970 or 1971. Even better, later that night, our friend, who was spending the weekend with his grandparents whose house was across the street from us, had his dog, a Dachshund, go crazy during the night. They went to the door and looked out back and there it was just out of the light, but they could see it walk behind the house. Their house was the last house on the block and it sits very close to the creek where the bigfoot was seen. Then, on Monday at school, a girl from across the street and three houses down started telling me their dog went nuts during Saturday night and when they went to check, there was a large, ape looking being in their back yard moving back toward the creek. I have no way to know where this person is, but it was exciting that others saw it that night. We never saw it again.
Physical evidence:
It smelled like a Spanish goat. Very dirty smell. We never found anything that we were sure belonged to the bigfoot. Again, it was large, dark, hairy, and smelly. It moved quickly and with long strides. It swung its arms when it walked.
Sounds:
Growling and a kind of yelling or maybe shrieking. Guttural sounds. Being at the edge of town, we always heard sounds in the night. Screams, yes, moans, yes. Barking and grunting sounds, too. We spent a lot of time outside in those days, and Valley Mills is a very small town. There were lots of wild animals around, especially with the river and creek so close. Our yard was between two houses with yards, but behind us was pastureland. The creek cut through the pasture and a stock tank had been dug maybe a half mile from our yard. There was a lot of room for animals to roam.

This investigation was conducted as a result of an incident that allegedly occurred in Bosque County, Texas, in 1971 (or possibly 1970).
I conducted an interview with the witness in person over the Christmas holidays (2005) and at the location of her sighting. The witness's mother also joined us during the interview. I found the primary witness to be very credible as well as her mother. Although the mother did not experience this reported encounter, she described an additional event that happened to a friend of hers, on the west side of town. The event occurred shortly before this reported encounter; the mother told of how something had hit the side of her friend's mobile home during the night and left a very large "hand print." The friend's dog was scared and would not go outside the rest of the night.
In returning to the original report, the witness continued retelling the event, very much as it had been submitted. She added that the large creature had black/tan hair, had reached up and grabbed a tree branch about eight to ten feet off the ground, gave off a series of garbled howls, and began walking towards the creek, its arms making a very long swinging motion somewhat like that of a "power-walker" as it walked.
I approximated that the distance from the house to the creek was just under 100 yards and there was a clear, unobstructed view to the area of the sighting from the witness's driveway. The creek bed is approximately one and one-quarter miles from the Bosque River and parallels that river, with large pasture areas between the creek and the river. The creek was very thick with under brush in many areas. As we traveled the creek bed under the bridge, the witness immediately spotted deer tracks as well as other smaller animal tracks. We progressed under the bridge and up the creek bed towards the direction of a neighbor's home.
This neighbor's home is approximately the same distance of 100 yards from the creek bed. It was this location where the neighbor's dog "was going crazy during the night." Across the street from this home, another neighbor reported a "large hairy man looking through the back glass door."
The witness and her mother added that during that winter, they found several large footprints in the snow on their back patio. The footprints lead up to the kitchen window; they appeared to be barefooted prints and not boot prints, as they could see the outline of the toes on several of the prints. It should be noted that the NAWAC database contains another report of a bigfoot encounter in 1979 in this same county and not too distant from this location.
